Site
Inspection
1. Is your site
level?
Tongued & Grooved/Timber
Existing T&G timber floors
must be level, sagging boards replaced and
squeaky boards repaired.
Concrete floors
In the case of concrete floors
run a straight length of timber over the floor
this will give an indication of potential
problems.
The floor may need to be repaired
with floor levelling compound.
2.
Is your subfloor dry?
Timber Floors
Existing T&G timber floors must be below
8% moisture content.
(This is not usually a problem
in modern houses but older houses may not
have sufficient damp proofing underneath)
Concrete Floors
In the case of new houses the concrete floor
must be allowed to dry for at least 1 month
per 1” depth of sub floor, before testing
for moisture.
The concrete floor must then
be tested for moisture. An installer should
test this with a concrete moisture meter.
An effective cheap way to test a concrete
floor is to tape down a 2ft X 2ft plastic
sheet with waterproof tape in a number of
locations on the floor. A lamp should then
be placed over the area. After a 24 hour period
if there is any condensation or any change
in colour of the concrete
Canadia’s recommendation
is that our timber floors should not be fitted
over concrete that reads over 3.5% moisture.
