What Types Of Hardwood is there?
Hardwood comes in 3 different builds. Solid, Engineered and semi solid.
What finishes are available?
Hardwood can come in 2 different finishes. Lacquer which is a protective coating that sits on top of the flooring, and Hard-wax oil which sinks into the woods pores and protects from within the flooring.
Is it easy to install?
Hardwood floors can be tricky to install and leave little room for error, you should always consult a professional if you are unsure of how to fit a real wood floor.
How do I clean Hardwood?
Wood should be cleaned with a dedicated floor cleaner and microfiber mop. If these products are not available to you wood can be cleaned with a damp mop, less water is key. It is important to get a cleaner that is designed for your floors finish I.e. Hard wax oil or lacquer.
What rooms are suitable?
Hardwood is suitable in all areas except bathrooms.
Are they hard wearing?
Wood floors are rated on their resistance to denting and scratching via the Janka Hardness Scale .
Can they be used with underfloor heating?
Engineered floors are the only hardwood that is suitable for underfloor heating, it is recommended to Glue wood floors directly to the subfloor.
Are Hardwood floors suitable for wheelchairs?
Depending on the finish and species of wood it is likely some scratching and denting will accumulate.
What goes underneath hardwood floors?
Engineered floors can be fit with an underlay. Each underlay carries its own set of unique benefits for a particular area. Solid floors must be glued or nailed directly to the subfloor.
Can I fit it on my existing wooden floor or tiles?
Yes, however a it would need to be fit at 90 degrees to an existing wooden floor and tiles would need to be flat.
Can I use a steam mop on my floor?
Never, ever. Steam mops push moisture into laminate and real wood floors and will cause swelling down the line.
